Start by understanding the source of an indoor odor.

RJ Sam’s works on the indoor air quality equipment already in your home, across brands. We assess the equipment and explain compatible repair, care or replacement options.

Tell us what’s happening

Where does the odor appear?

For a recurring non-emergency concern, request a follow-up. Do not open equipment or investigate a suspected gas leak.

Gas smell, CO alarm, smoke or fire?Leave the building immediately and call 911 from a safe location outside. If you suspect a gas leak, do not use switches, phones, flames, or anything that could spark near the suspected leak. For a suspected gas leak, also contact your gas utility once you are safely away. Do not re-enter until emergency responders say it is safe. Do not use a website service request for an immediate hazard.

Rooms and timing
Note whether it changes after rain, cooking, cleaning or HVAC startup.
Moisture and drainage
Musty conditions may call for checking damp material, water sources or relevant HVAC drains.
Other sources
Plumbing, household products, outdoor air and building conditions may need work outside the HVAC scope.

Before you agree

What should the plan include?

Review what the work addresses, the equipment and connections involved, and what is excluded. The proposed work and price should be clear before you approve it.

Filtration, humidity and ventilation guide

Source investigation
Explain relevant HVAC checks and where another specialist may be needed.
Correction before equipment
Water or drainage problems may need attention before considering air treatment.
A defined treatment purpose
Ordinary particle filters do not remove every gas. Ask what any proposed treatment targets and what care it requires.

What affects the work and cost?Source control, ventilation routes and any appropriate air-treatment equipment have different costs and limits. The recommendation should explain which concern it is intended to address.

Know what happens next

Before and after the work

  1. Describe the pattern

We’ll discuss the rooms, timing and changes you noticed when we follow up. The source needs assessment at the property.

  2. Review findings and limits

Understand what the HVAC assessment explains and what remains outside its scope.

  3. Confirm the next step

Compare source correction and appropriate ventilation or treatment, with proposed work and price explained. Review any separately priced supplies, cleaning or further work before approval.

Before you decide

Questions before deciding

Review the common questions and use the symptom checker for guidance before requesting a visit. A technician will need to diagnose the cause.

Will UV treatment or a normal filter remove any odor or gas?

No. Particle filters, UV devices and ventilation have different purposes. Review the source and whether the concern falls within HVAC work; plumbing, building-material or other sources may need another trade. An equipment sale should not substitute for establishing what is causing the odor.

Will a dehumidifier fix a musty smell?

It may help manage water vapor if suitable for the conditions. Active leaks, damp material and other odor sources still need attention.

Does more ventilation solve every odor?

No. The source, outdoor conditions and ventilation arrangement matter. Some concerns need source removal or another specialist.

Can an air cleaner handle every gas?

No. The intended target and limits of the specific equipment need explanation. Ordinary particle filtration and source-specific gas treatment have different roles.
