Smart thermostats and controls for your home.

RJ Sam’s works on the thermostats and controls already in your home, across brands. We assess the equipment and explain compatible repair, care or replacement options.

What your home needs

Thermostat problems and system response

A thermostat can show the effects of a fault elsewhere. We investigate the control and connected equipment before recommending a replacement.

A blank screen
Power interruptions or an equipment safety shutdown can affect the display. Describe the change and leave wiring and panels untouched.
Rooms do not follow the setting
Discuss which rooms are affected and whether the problem happens during heating, cooling or both.
Unexpected AUX messages
Backup heat can operate normally. A large change in use or a house that will not warm up needs investigation.

Smart thermostat compatibility

Choose a thermostat that suits the equipment and is straightforward for your household to use.

  • Check equipment type, wiring and the functions the new control must manage.
  • Some variable-capacity systems use manufacturer-specific controls. Confirm compatibility before choosing a replacement.
  • Review schedules, setup and connected features for the selected model.

Different rooms and floors

HVAC zoning and temperature controls

Additional thermostats need a system designed to respond to them. We assess the equipment, ducts and controls before recommending zoning.

A separate ductless unit may be a suitable option for some rooms. Compare the room’s requirements with changes to the central distribution.

Thermostat setup, fan modes and testing

AUTO normally runs the indoor fan with a heating or cooling call. ON normally circulates air between calls. Use the settings supported by your installed system; circulation alone does not correct an airflow or equipment fault.

After an upgrade, we configure the control for the installed equipment and test the relevant heating and cooling modes. We walk through the settings you will use.

Before you decide

Thermostat and control questions

Review the common questions and use the symptom checker for guidance before requesting a visit. A technician will need to diagnose the cause.

What should thermostat installation and handover include?

A check of wiring and equipment compatibility, the settings needed for heating/cooling and any backup heat, and a demonstration of schedules and normal use. Remote access and zoning are different needs; a new thermostat does not by itself correct duct restrictions or inadequate room capacity.

What should I compare before choosing thermostats & controls?

We’ll identify your equipment and what you want the control to do. Temperature scheduling, zone management and supported system information are different features.

Should my thermostat fan be ON or AUTO?

AUTO normally runs the indoor fan when the system calls for heating or cooling; ON normally keeps it running between calls. Continuous circulation does not create cooling or fix poor airflow. Some systems use their own circulation or variable-speed settings, so follow the instructions for the installed equipment. If the home is uncomfortable or humid, review the system and settings together.

Does AUX mean my heat pump is broken?

No. Backup heat can operate during normal conditions. If it runs much more than usual or the house will not warm up, the connected system needs a check.

Will any smart thermostat work with my system?

Equipment type, wiring and required functions determine compatibility. Some systems need manufacturer-specific controls.

Will a second thermostat fix a hot upstairs?

The equipment, distribution and control arrangement need assessment. A second thermostat alone does not create a system that can manage separate zones.

How is a controls visit arranged?

Leave your contact details. We’ll follow up to discuss the concern and the right assessment, then explain any proposed upgrade or zoning work before you decide.
