Fuel efficiency
AFUE compares how much fuel becomes useful heat at the furnace over a season. It does not include heat lost through the ducts or tell you the right equipment size.
Compare the rating alongside installation cost, heating needs, venting and the features you will use. A higher-efficiency furnace can require different venting and drainage.
Compare furnace replacement scopeMaintenance follows the equipment and manufacturer’s guidance, including appropriate operation and heating-safety checks. Mention any new noise, repeated cycling or change in room temperatures.
Keep up with the correct filter care. If the furnace already has a fault, arrange repair rather than expecting routine maintenance to resolve it.

Before you decide
Review the common questions and compare furnace efficiencies using the same heating demand and fuel price. The calculator compares fuel costs; installation cost and payback need a separate assessment.
Not automatically. AFUE describes fuel conversion efficiency at the furnace; it does not establish room airflow or the right size. Review heat loss, ducts, returns, cooling-coil compatibility, fuel supply and venting with the model’s features and full installed work.
Compare the identified repair with the furnace’s remaining condition and any cold rooms a replacement would still need to address. A larger furnace does not correct restricted ducts or return air.
