Make sure the equipment works together
Look for the exact outdoor unit, indoor equipment and controls. A complete system may include a coil, air handler or furnace, and backup heat where needed. The combination affects compatibility and rated performance.
Ducts, electrical supply and supporting installation work
Fuel lines, venting, drainage and equipment access also affect the installation. One proposal may include a needed change that another leaves out. Ask which conditions were checked and what the price assumes.
Ask how the system was sized
Equipment size should relate to the home’s heating and cooling needs. If a quote recommends larger equipment, ask what finding supports that choice and whether the ducts can handle the airflow. A bigger unit is not automatically an upgrade.
Removal, permits and getting the system running
Ask about old-equipment removal, protection of the work area, applicable permits, startup checks and the homeowner walkthrough. Identify work assigned to another contractor and whether its price is included.
Parts warranty, registration and labor coverage
Manufacturer parts coverage, registration requirements and labor coverage are different items. Ask for the current written terms instead of relying on a general warranty phrase.
Five questions to clarify an HVAC quote
RJ Sam’s explains the proposal around your home so you can compare the choices and approve the work with an understanding of the scope.
- What problem is this installation meant to solve?
- Which equipment and supporting work are included?
- What is excluded or still unknown?
- How are changes in work or price approved?
- What is checked before the job is complete?
